Evolutionary Alignment
The human body has developed over a period of millions of years. It's only in the last hundred years or so that humans have radically departed from their own evolutionary course and the natural laws that guide evolution. The introduction of food processing (especially with regards to oils and dairy products), the high consumption of depleted foods (which taste good but contain few nutrients), the use of food additives and preservatives, the hydrogenation of oils, the corruption of water (with chlorine and fluorine), the dumping of millions of tons of environmental toxins and pollutants, and even a society wherein people are isolated and without support, are all departures from evolution. Every such departure displaces the body's natural power and hampers its reproductive ability.
The female body was designed to become pregnant. A primary reason why a couple cannot become pregnant (even though they want to) is because they have---knowingly or unknowingly---departed from the natural laws that govern the body. Thus, a major part of this program is to discover the ways in which each participant (both female and male) has diverted from the body’s natural course and then to realign each individual with his or her evolutionary blueprint (thereby restoring the body's inherent power and its ability to procreate.)
Light
To give you an idea of one way a person might unwittingly depart from the natural course of evolution, let’s look at the subject of light. How much natural sunlight did our ancestors get compared to the amount of light that a modern-day man or woman receives? If we look at someone who works under artificial lighting (and worse yet, under fluorescent lights and sits in front of a computer monitor all day) we can see how “off-course” this is in terms of the evolutionary history of the body. To the physical eye, it appears as if one is in the light all day; however, to the pineal gland, which regulates the body's global rhythm, and which is only activated by natural sunlight, it appears to the body as if it is in darkness most of the time. (Even natural light that comes in through a window, or through a pair of glasses, does not fully register as “light” to the pineal gland). Thus, if a person is inside all day (under artificial light), the body might register less than one hour of sunlight per day. Fifty thousand years ago, if there was only one hour of sunlight per day, this would indicate an environmental crisis. The body, using its vast wisdom (and survival strategy), would shut down the reproductive organs during this time of crisis. Certainly, if there were only one hour of sunlight few plants would grow and food would become scarce. Getting pregnant at that time would not be wise (as the chances of the mother and baby surviving would be very low). So, the body, in its intelligence (and through its connection to the larger cycles of life, via the pineal gland) postpones the pregnancy until conditions become more favorable, until the sunlight returns. And, in cases where the sunlight never seems to return (which is the case with women who are under artificial light most of the day) the body postpones pregnancy indefinitely.
This is just one of over a dozen examples of the way modern life can divert people from the natural law of the body. The lack of pregnancy in all these unnatural conditions is a sign that the intelligence of the body is working perfectly, that pregnancy is being postponed until normal conditions are restored.
Receiving sunlight on a regular basis, directly through the eyes (but not looking directly at the sun) is one way to effectively stimulate the endocrine system and align the body with the greater rhythms of Life.
Emotional Wholeness
In terms of one’s emotional state, we can look again to evolution (and the survival programming of the body) for an explanation of why negative emotions can adversely affect the body and block a woman's ability to conceive. If a woman (50,000 years ago) were in a state of chronic stress (which would only be the case if her physical body was in constant danger) it would signify a very unsafe condition; becoming pregnant during such a time would be dangerous to the mother and the child. In response, the body would put everything on hold and divert all its power to survival functions. All non-vital functions, including fertility, would be postponed until the danger had passed. And, in the case of chronic, low-grade stress--which affects many women today--the danger never seems to pass. Thus, stress sends a very powerful message to the subconscious mind, warning it of danger and directing it to put fertility on hold.
We can also look at the state of loneliness or isolation. Our ancestors were never isolated; they were part of a tribe and always had physical and emotional support. If a woman felt isolated, it was a sure sign that she was alone and separated from her tribe. And this was quite a dangerous situation. Getting pregnant at that time—when separated and without the support of her tribe—could be fatal to both the mother and the child. Thus, the subconscious mind would direct the body to put fertility on hold until this dangerous period of isolation passed and the woman once again joined her tribe. In modern times, where the extended family and a true sense community is often lacking, where people are thwarted and out of sorts in their marriage (the average marriage lasting only seven years), there is a deep sense of isolation. A woman may think, "What if something happens to me? What if I become ill?—who will take care of my child?" This fear may send a powerful message to one's subconscious mind which, in response, prevents pregnancy. A woman may be living in a city, surrounded by people and activities, yet still feel isolated and cut off from deep human connections and the greater flow of life. She may be too much in her mind and not enough in her heart. In all such cases of low-level stress, depression, and isolation a woman's personal and procreative power is diminished.
In sum, negative emotions such as stress, isolation, depression, fear, and hopelessness are powerful agents that signal the body (through the subconscious mind) of some state of crisis or threat. These negative emotions are opposite in every respect to the pure positivity of life. These emotions, and their source, must be understood and resolved in order for the body to align with its true, life-giving power. Psychological insight, access to one's creative power, feeling hopeful about success, and connecting with a caring, supportive group are important factors in helping to overcome these negative emotional blocks and restore the body to its rightful power. All of these important factors are addressed and actualized in the Integral Fertility Program.
Order, Harmony, and the Life-Force
The first principle of creation is order (or harmony); and we might get a better understanding of things if we look at them in terms of these principles. The more organized a structure, the more capable it is of embodying Spirit—which means the more capable it is of embodying Life. The human body is the most complex organism on this planet and the most capable of being alive, intelligent, creative, and loving. However, if the inherent harmony of the body has been undermined, if it has departed from the underlying matrix that gave rise to it in the first place (and which constantly supports it) then a person is less capable of embodying the qualities of Spirit and of Life. This also applies to a person’s physical body and emotional body; if one's emotional body lacks harmony—and is disconnected from the unifying force of Spirit or love—then the whole organism is rendered less capable of engendering life.
In sum, poor health, severe imbalances in the body, emotional disharmony---such as fear, contraction, self-protection, depression, confusion, feeling unworthy or inadequate, etc---and high levels of exogenous toxins all serve to disorganize the body, block the operation of one’s inherent life force, and create conditions of less life and less aliveness.
A large part of this program is designed to restore one's essential life-energy; this is accomplished by enhancing both the physical and emotional bodies. In addition, one’s life-force is increased and expanded from within when a person is able to connect with his or her spiritual center, which is united with the infinite source of life itself.
* * *
Oftentimes when a woman is not able to get pregnant (which often means that the body is preventing pregnancy because conditions are not conducive to having a healthy child) she will take forceful and invasive measures, such as having in vitro fertilization. Such a procedure does not seek to rectify the underlying problem but is merely an attempt to try and force pregnancy upon the body, when the body--due to poor and unsupportive conditions--is taking measures to postpone it. Such methods should only be used as a last resort, after everything else has been done to improve conditions and make the body (and heart) a safe vehicle for bringing new life into the world. In all cases, the use of natural methods--which creates a healthy and hospitable environment for a developing fetus--increases one’s natural fertility potential and the success rate of medical procedures such as in vitro fertilization. More than that, more than merely having a child, the use of natural methods---used before and during pregnancy---will help insure that you give birth to a healthy, happy child.
